Man Utd Signs Benjamin Sesko for £74M, Boosts Attack

Manchester United has officially signed striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a big transfer deal worth £73.7 million. The young Slovenia player has signed a five-year contract with the club. The deal includes a guaranteed £66.3 million payment, with the rest coming as performance bonuses.

This signing is Manchester United’s third major addition to their attacking line this summer, after bringing in Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million and Bryan Mbeumo for £65 million (plus £6 million in bonuses).

Sesko, who is just 22 years old, was also wanted by Newcastle United. However, he chose to join Manchester United under coach Ruben Amorim.

Last season, Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League — a disappointing position — while Newcastle finished 5th and qualified for the Champions League, also winning the EFL Cup.

Sesko’s Excitement and Ambition

Benjamin Sesko expressed his excitement about joining such a big club. He said, “Manchester United’s history is very special, but what excites me more is the future.” He believes the team is ready to grow and compete for big trophies soon.

Sesko added, “From the moment I arrived, I felt positive energy and a family atmosphere. This is the perfect place for me to reach my best level and achieve my goals.”

He is eager to learn from coach Ruben Amorim and build good relationships with his teammates to help the club succeed.

What Will Sesko Bring to Manchester United?

Sesko has played two seasons in Germany with RB Leipzig, having joined from Salzburg in 2023. He scored 39 goals in 87 games across all competitions, with 27 goals in 64 Bundesliga matches.

Currently, Sesko is the top scorer under the age of 23 in Europe’s five biggest leagues. He even scores more goals than big names like Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham.

Sesko is known for his speed, reaching a top speed of 35.7 km/h, and his height of 6ft 5in helps him win many aerial duels — he wins 57.4% of the headers against defenders.

Though he doesn’t take many shots compared to others, he has a high scoring rate and also scores many goals from outside the penalty area. Last season, 23.1% of his goals came from long-range shots.

He is also becoming more flexible on the field, playing not only as a striker but also helping on the wings and in midfield.

Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s director of football, said, “Benjamin has a rare mix of speed and physical power. He is one of the best young players in world football. We believe he will reach his world-class potential here at Manchester United.”

What Does This Mean for Rasmus Hojlund?

Sesko’s arrival may affect the future of current United striker Rasmus Hojlund, also 22 years old. Hojlund has said he wants to stay with the club, even though there is more competition for places in the team.

However, Manchester United might sell Hojlund for around £30 million. Italian club AC Milan is interested but prefers to take him on loan first.

Hojlund has scored 14 Premier League goals in two seasons since joining from Atalanta for £72 million.

With new signings like Sesko, Cunha, and Mbeumo, Manchester United looks ready to challenge for trophies again.
