In the Latest News and Breaking News from Bihar, the Janata Dal (United) — JD(U), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has officially released its first list of 57 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. This move signals the beginning of an intense political contest, setting the tone for the Daily news highlights in the state’s election season.

The announcement came after several days of internal discussions within the party and alliance talks within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The list was unveiled on Wednesday and represents a mix of experienced leaders, new faces, and community-based candidates designed to attract diverse voter groups across Bihar.

Key highlights of JD(U)’s first candidate list:

  1. Anant Singh, one of the most talked-about leaders, will contest from Mokama, a constituency known for its political influence.
  2. The JD(U) has taken over four seats previously associated with Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), a bold move showing its effort to strengthen its hold within the NDA alliance.
  3. Party veterans and state ministers like Shravan Kumar (Nalanda) and Sunil Kumar (Bhore, SC) have also been renominated, showcasing Nitish Kumar’s trust in his senior team.
  4. Women and candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC) have been given a fair share, reflecting JD(U)’s focus on inclusivity.

Political competition heats up

The release of JD(U)’s list comes a day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its own first list of 71 candidates for the same election. The BJP’s lineup includes several senior leaders such as Mangal Pandey (Siwan), Tarkishore Prasad (Katihar), Renu Devi (Bettiah), and Samrat Chaudhary (Tarapur).

Meanwhile, Jan Suraaj, led by election strategist Prashant Kishor, has already released 65 candidates, moving ahead in the ticket distribution race. The battle for Bihar’s 243 assembly seats is clearly intensifying, with each party focusing on early momentum.

 NDA seat-sharing formula

As per the final seat-sharing agreement announced on Sunday:

  • BJP will contest 101 seats,
  • JD(U) will also contest 101 seats,
  • Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) gets 29 seats,
  • Smaller allies Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest six seats each.

This balanced distribution highlights the NDA’s strategy of maintaining unity while ensuring equal opportunity for all partners.

 Opposition still undecided

While the NDA is moving ahead confidently, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) led by the RJD and Congress has yet to finalize its seat-sharing arrangement. JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha criticized the opposition for being “confused and directionless,” saying,

“The opposition is still unable to decide on its seat sharing, while Nitish Kumar is ready to launch the campaign and connect directly with the people of Bihar.”

Jha confirmed that JD(U) will release its second list of candidates within a few days, adding that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will officially begin his election campaign on Thursday.

Bihar gears up for election season

With around 7.42 crore registered voters, Bihar is preparing for one of the most closely watched elections in the country. The voting will take place in two phases — on November 6 and November 11, while the results will be declared on November 14.

The upcoming elections will be a major test for Nitish Kumar’s leadership and the strength of the NDA alliance, especially amid growing competition from both the Mahagathbandhan and new regional forces.

As political parties race to finalize their candidates, Bihar’s political atmosphere is charged with energy and anticipation. With the JD(U) unveiling its first list, the state is officially entering campaign mode — a phase that will shape not just the next government but also the political direction of the state for years to come.
