Lucid Motors has produced its first Gravity SUV at its facility in Casa Grande, Arizona. The announcement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter). While production is underway, Lucid has not yet disclosed when customers will receive the first vehicles.

A New Era for Lucid

The Gravity SUV is a critical step for Lucid as it expands its lineup. Positioned as a more versatile and practical alternative to the Air sedan, the Gravity targets a broader audience in the competitive SUV market.

Struggles with the Air Sedan

The Air sedan faced challenges during its launch, with sales starting slower than expected. Although recent quarters show some improvement, the company has had to rely on financial support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to sustain operations and develop the Gravity.

Gravity’s Impressive Features

High Performance

  • Dual Motors: The Grand Touring model produces 828 horsepower with its two electric motors.
  • Long Range: It offers an impressive 440+ miles on a single charge.

Flexible Seating Options

  • Two Rows Standard: Fits up to five passengers comfortably.
  • Optional Third Row: Accommodates more passengers for families or larger groups.

Pricing Choices

  • Premium Model: Starts at $94,900 for the Grand Touring version.
  • Affordable Option: A $79,900 version is expected in late 2025.
Growing Demand for Electric SUVs

The Gravity SUV enters a rapidly expanding market for electric SUVs. SUVs appeal to families and adventure-seekers with their spacious interiors and versatility, making them a popular choice. Lucid hopes this new model will increase its sales and attract new customers.

Financial Backing and Market Challenges

Lucid’s development of the Gravity has been bolstered by its partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. However, the company still faces stiff competition from Tesla, Rivian, and other established EV brands. Scaling production and meeting delivery goals will be key to its success.

The Road Ahead

Launching the Gravity SUV is a bold move for Lucid. Its high performance, long range, and premium features position it as a strong contender in the EV market. As production ramps up, the Gravity could redefine Lucid’s trajectory in the electric vehicle industry.
