In Karnataka, a big political discussion is going on within the Congress party. There have been many rumors about a possible change in the chief minister’s position. But Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge has made it clear that only the party high command has the power to decide on such matters. He also warned people not to create confusion or problems through speculation.
Power-Sharing Rumors Spark Debate
After the Congress party came back to power in Karnataka in 2023, reports started spreading about a secret agreement. Many believed there was a 2.5-year power-sharing deal between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. This meant each leader would hold the top position for half of the five-year term. However, the Congress party never officially confirmed or denied this deal.
Recently, some state Congress leaders claimed that the chief minister post might be given to someone else in October 2025. These statements caused more speculation about possible leadership changes. But Kharge quickly shut down those rumors.
Kharge: Only High Command Has Authority
While speaking to the press in Bengaluru on Monday, Mallikarjun Kharge said clearly, “These decisions are in the hands of the high command. No one in the state can say what the high command is planning. Only they have the authority to make such choices.”
He added that such public discussions only cause trouble. “We should not create unnecessary problems or complications,” Kharge said. This statement was a strong warning to party leaders who were spreading rumors or making early predictions about the CM’s future.
Siddaramaiah’s Son Denies Change
In more Breaking News from Karnataka politics, Siddaramaiah’s son and Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah also denied all the leadership change rumors. Speaking to reporters over the weekend, he said, “There is no discussion about removing my father from the CM post. He will complete the full five-year term.”
Yathindra made it clear that the Congress high command and most MLAs support his father fully. He added, “The government is running smoothly. There is no sign or talk from the top leadership about any change.”
What Triggered the Buzz?
The recent debate started when Cooperation Minister KN Rajanna said there could be a leadership shift in September. He claimed there were “multiple power centers” in the state government. This added more fuel to the rumors.
However, Yathindra rejected Rajanna’s comments. He said, “Only Rajanna can explain why he made that statement. There is no truth to it.”
Congress Unity at Stake?
This kind of public discussion shows the growing tension within Karnataka Congress. Even though the party is in power, differences in opinion and ambition may be affecting unity. But with leaders like Kharge stepping in, the party hopes to stay focused and avoid internal fights.
As of now, the official word is that there will be no change in the chief minister post. The Congress high command holds the final decision-making power. Until then, any talk about leadership changes remains just a rumor.
